Permanent Land Surveying Registry (RPA)

Law 173 of 1988 establishes that licensed engineers qualified in land surveying may continue practicing under their engineering license, provided they register in the Permanent Land Surveying Registry (RPA) within one year from the enactment of the law. After this period, only engineers who are registered or possess a land surveying license can practice surveying in Puerto Rico.

In 1997, the law was amended to allow the Examining Board to establish continuing education requirements necessary for license renewal. Engineers in the RPA must meet these requirements for both professions to maintain their ability to practice. It is essential that the renewal certificate indicates the RPA mention to prevent unregistered engineers from submitting surveying projects to permitting offices.

Engineers who meet the requirements but whose certificates do not include the RPA designation are advised to request a new certificate from the Board. This process helps streamline permit issuance and prevent illegal land surveying practices.
