1788By Royal Order, the Spanish Government created the Corps of Engineers of Roads, Canals, Ports, and Mines in Puerto Rico.
1835Establishment of a Special School for Geographical Engineers under the direct supervision of the Puerto Rico Astronomical Observatory.
1846Governor Rafael Arístegui y Vélez, known as the Count of Mirasol, created the Regulations for the Corps of Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico.
1880Authorization for Spanish and Creole engineers and architects with foreign degrees to practice their professions in Puerto Rico.
1898-1904The U.S. military government abolished the Royal Orders, deregulating land surveying, architecture, and engineering professions, compromising public safety.
1904Creation of the Puerto Rico Society of Engineers (SIPR) to apply safety standards in engineering projects.
1927Puerto Rico Legislature passed Law 31 regulating the professions of engineering, land surveying, and architecture.
1928Approval of the law creating the Board of Examiners of Engineers, Architects, and Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico.
1938Approval of the law creating the College of Engineers, Architects, and Land Surveyors of Puerto Rico.
1980Law #12 separated the College of Architects from the College of Engineers and Land Surveyors.
1988Law #173 regulated the practice of engineering, architecture, and land surveying.
